Perfume News and Launches from around the world.
Written on April 9, 2008
This week we have plenty of news from various perfume houses.
Le Labo Bergamote 22 Bergamote 22 was created by perfumer Daphne Bugey for the Le Labo line, which recently launched in NYC, USA. The fragrance features bergamot, petitgrain, grapefruit, nutmeg, orange blossom, aspic, cedar, amber, musk and vetiver. Bergamote 22 starts with a rush of dry spices not unlike the opening of Rose 31, but with lighter notes of citrus and orange blossom replacing the rose and deep woods in the Rose 31.
Le Labo is marketing it as a men’s fragrance. L’Artisan Mandarine Tout Simplement L’Artisan has launched Mandarine Tout Simplement, its limited edition summer fragrance for 2006. The Eau de Toilette was created by perfumer Olivia Giacobetti and features green mandarin, ginger, yellow mandarin, frangipani, red mandarin, and white cedar. New from Histoires de Parfums: 1969, the first “Parfum de R?volte”, with notes of cardamom, carnations, patchouli and white musk.
Element of Desire is the latest fragrance release from Creative Universe. The fragrance features notes of rain drenched greens, citrus, dimbula tea, apricot, peony blossom, water jasmine, pink muguet, white sandalwood and golden amber.
According to our sources the major fragrance release for women coming from Guerlain this fall (the one that will be fronted by actress Hilary Swank) will be called Insolence, and is due for launch in the USA by September.
Also Les Nouveautes, the latest fragrance from MAC: Dejarose, with Bulgarian, Turkish and Tea red roses, green notes, orchid, lily, jasmine, peony, red raspberry, pink pepper, woods, patchouli and amber crystal.
Shiseido’s newest creation, by perfumer Nathalie Lorson, is their first major fragrance launch for women since Vocalise in 1997 and the recent re-release of Zen in 2000. Of course it remains to be seen if this scent will cross the great divide and land at a fragrance counter near you. A fruity floral perfume focusing on Bulgarian rose, other notes include red peony, blackberry, raspberry, Morrocan rose, iris, heliotrope, velvet musk and sandalwood. This is another fruity floral, much along the lines of Cacharel Promesse, though slightly warmer and not as light. The scent does have an odd development, opening with floral preserves and then relaxing with an almost powdery accord — must be the heliotrope and iris — before moving back to a less sweet rose and ending with a subtle warmth of musk. The uniqueness of the Bulgarian rose aroma is evident throughout.
Anisia Bella was launched in 2004 as part of Guerlain’s Aqua Allegoria range of fragrances. It has notes of aniseed, orange, bergamot, basil, star anise, violet, jasmine, liquorice wood, and cedar.I love anise-based perfumes.Anisia Bella opens with lightly sugared citrus; the anise is pronounced from the start and stays central through the dry down. There is a minty-peppery undertone from the basil and a bit of sweet violet drifts in and out, but for the most part it is all about the anise. The base is musky and woody, with a fair amount of cedar. It is a simple fragrance, and like most of the Aqua Allegorias, relatively sheer and soft. Etro Anice is another summery fragrance that is worth trying. It starts out candy-sweet (more so than the Guerlain) but the sweetness dries up nicely as it calms, and the base is much lighter. It is somewhat foodier than the Anisia Bella, perhaps because of the caraway and fennel notes.
Anna Sui Dolly Girl on the Beach & Calvin Klein Euphoria Blossom Anna Sui has released a limited edition fragrance for summer, Dolly Girl on the Beach, with notes of mandarin, peach nectar, lemon, apple, cassis, marigold, bergamot, freesia, lotus blossom, rose petals, crushed leaves, blonde woods, amber crystals and powdery musks.
Calvin Klein has launched their first fragrance geared towards the Asian market. Euphoria Blossom…..features a number of Asian ingredients. The top notes comprise kumquat, a dewy green accord and pomegranate; the heart notes are orchid blossom, lotus blossom and pink peony petals with base notes of blond wood, white amber and frosted sheer musk. The distribution will be expanded outside of Asia over the coming year.
Paco Rabanne has launched two limited edition summer fragrances: Ultraviolet Colours of Summer [for women] is a fresh, fruity floral jus with top notes of pink grapefruit and pink pepper. Heart notes of coral and osmanthus flower blend with base notes of vanilla and sandalwood. Ultraviolet Man Colours of Summer is a tropical blend of green pimento and pink grape fruit, complemented with notes of cedarwood, ambergris and oak moss. Its bottle and carton are presented in bright shades of blue and green.
